Ranch homes are synonymous with laid-back living. They emphasize the family-friendly backyard, usually connected to the kitchen or dining area via a sliding glass door and a deck or patio. The updated kitchen, featuring a bright ceramic subway tile backsplash and new dishwasher, overlooks the dining/breakfast area flooded with sunlight via French doors that lead out to a new 11' x 12' deck - perfect for summer barbecuing and entertaining. A large walk-in pantry, previously used for a small office, offers loads of storage space. You'll love the bookshelf “secret door” entry.

This single-story energy-efficient home offers 3 bedrooms with plush wall-to-wall carpet home,  good-sized closets and lots of storage.

Outside, the open carport is backed with an enclosed storage building. In the back yard, another nice storage building is wired for both 110V and 220V power. The additional attached lean-to shed multiplies your storage area for garden tools or bicycles and provides extra outdoor workspace while shielding you from the elements.

This all-brick 1,328 square foot home is Duke Power certified "Energy Efficient", meaning low heating and cooling costs, with its Trane XL1000 heat pump, and low maintenance costs.

1105 Elizabeth Avenue sits deeply on nearly .5 acre on quiet street backed with wooded acreage. Enjoy boating, fishing, camping and water sports on nearby High Rock Lake and the Yadkin River. Treat family and guests to visits to the NC Transportation Museum just up the road, or take in live theatre, symphony, and restaurants in nearby Salisbury. Tyro Tavern - Solid Brick 5 Bedroom Home with a 177 Year-Old History

Along the Great Wagon Trail through North Carolina sits the Tyro Tavern, a massive 3-story all brick home with 5 bedrooms, 2 baths, and over 3400 square feet of living space.

Built in 1840, Tyro was a former plantation and inn . . . and the stories this pre-Civil War home could tell!

Step through the 50' wide porch to the wide center hall flanked by two formal parlors, the vintage plantation office, a kitchen separated by original 6-panel folding doors, and formal dining room.  One of the original parlors is now a 1st-floor owner's suite.

Upstairs, a massive sitting room/library adjoins the master bedroom, and down a hall what used to be guest rooms for tavern overnight guests is now two bedrooms, a large closet, and a bath with clawfoot tub. Walk out the upstairs hall to another 50' porch spanning the width of the house.

Another porch off the kitchen overlooks the expanse of back yard, with storage shed and vintage tobacco barn. There is SO much more to tell.

"Tyro" means "a new beginning". . . and this painstakingly restored treasure could be your new beginning.

Thank You to All Our Veterans

It is the Veteran, not the minister
Who has given us freedom of religion.

It is the Veteran, not the reporter
Who has given us freedom of the press.

It is the Veteran, not the poet
Who has given us freedom of speech.

It is the Veteran, not the campus organizer
Who has given us freedom to protest.

It is the Veteran, not the lawyer
Who has given us the right to a fair trial.

It is the Veteran, not the politician
Who has given us the right to vote.

It is the Veteran who salutes the flag,

Who give the protester the right to burn the flag.
Who serves beneath the flag,
And whose coffin is draped by the flag,

Never forget!

The Fantastic Story of the Hidden House

The fantastic stories can be read here:

Creepy ‘house that disappeared’ rescued from bulldozers by NC town

Historic Salisbury Foundation acquires house once overrun by nature

The newspaper and television articles are out there:  The circa 1922 home at 128 W. Thomas Street in Salisbury, North Carolina has been saved.

The McCanless-Busby-Thompson House...all but forgotten, and in fact invisible, completely enshrouded with vines, trees, and overgrown shrubs. This grand home was unearthed by the Historic Salisbury time for the City of Salisbury's Code Enforcement Department to step up and declare the house 'demolished by neglect' and order its final demolition.

The article in the Charlotte Observer says:

"The Historic Salisbury Foundation finalized a deal September 26, 2017 to buy the 95-year-old home for an undisclosed price. Two more days and the city was set to discuss tearing it down for being a threat to the community."

The WBTV article states:

"Edward Clement, trustee of Historic Salisbury Foundation, was elated saying: “this amazing last minute rescue saves an important house and helps protect a vital edge of the West Square Historic District."

Greg Rapp, known for his preservation culture and historic home dealings, recognized the impact losing a home of this stature at the gateway to one of Salisbury's most prestigious historic districts would present. Yes, the challenges here are real, with crumbling roof and walls, compounded with hoards of neglect inside. Rapp, real estate agent with Wallace Realty, worked diligently to find a buyer for this home. After months of working with Code Enforcement and the Foundation, Greg brought the enthusiastic buyer to the table. This, for Rapp, was not a commission deal, but an act of pure preservation for the historic structure and homage to the neighborhood from the heart.

Rapp says, "This house is at the gateway to the West Square Historic District in Salisbury. It cannot be torn down. An empty lot decreases all the surrounding property values, when the potential still exists - no matter how challenging - that this property could be saved and revalued. Do you want a $20,000 lot...or a $200,000 property?"

Greg's work at 128 W. Thomas Street has come to fruition, quietly and without fanfare. There is a reason why Greg's work with historic properties has earned him the very solid real estate and preservationist reputation he carries. . . and it goes to the heart and soul of who he is, above and beyond the commission sale.
